Food Bank Farm Extension

The big day is nearly here!

First thing, Saturday the 16th we will be rallying at Bella Vista High School. Don't stress if you can't make it, but it's a lot of fun if you can! We will meet at the work site at 10AM after the rally to get started! Our main farm is right next door at 6401 Main Avenue, Orangevale CA. Remember when inputting this info into a map app to use "Avenue". We will be working in the site to the south, across Orangevale Ave. There is lots of parking along the front of the farm and the new site. The rough plan is as follows:

*Outline the task list and break into smaller groups to do the first couple of tasks: 1) Tractor loads pickup trucks with compost at farm which are driven to the lot, unloaded into wheel barrows which are then spread by volunteers into the beds. 2) Measure, cut and hole punch landscape fabric. 3) Install timer, head line, valves. 4) Till in compost and plant food. 5) Lay down drip line. 6) Cover growing beds with hole punched weed barrier. 7) Lay solid weed barrier between rows. 6) Turn on irrigation for a test run. 7) Plant squash and pumpkins There will be a quiz! I kid. I will post a white board and be available for all questions, ideas, etc. You'll notice me check in and flutter around quite a bit!

We will have snacks and drinks but I highly advise bringing a water bottle so you can refill and keep it on hand. Depending on how long the project takes, plan to take a break in the shade on the farm with us at 12 to cool off, hydrate and all that jazz. Be prepared to be out in the sun: big hats are highly recommended and highly underrated. Who doesn't want some shade over their head? Sunscreen also can't be recommended enough, though we also have some at the farm.
